Nominator's project description

Professor Belay is an internationally recognized expert in the field of communicable diseases. His scientific focus is tuberculosis, with particular attention to co-infections and antibiotic resistance. His dedicated research on creating novel diagnostics and understanding the epidemiology of these devastating diseases has had significant impacts for improving the diagnosis, management, prevention and control of infectious diseases in Ethiopia. During his stay in Leipzig, he focuses in particular on the interactions between the human immune system and the pathogens.
